How to Avoid Missing Tax Notices: A Reminder for Entrepreneurs and Citizens of Kazakhstan
November 27, 2025An Individual Identification Number (IIN) is your digital passport that stays with you for life. However, it is linked to the document on the basis of which it was issued. If you change your passport, obtain a new one (for example, a foreign passport), or update your personal details, the system may “not recognise” you — and this can lead to problems: refusal to register an LLP, open a bank account, or access public services.
To avoid this, it is necessary to update the IIN data - to correct the information associated with your identification number. The IIN itself remains the same; only the current data are “attached” to it: new passport, citizenship, name and other details.
How the correction is carried out
- Since March 2024, changes can only be made in person at a Public Service Center (PSC). The online service is no longer available.
- If you cannot attend in person, a representative acting under a notarised power of attorney is allowed.
- On site, a specialist verifies your documents against the database and, if necessary, requests a translation of the passport if it is not in Russian or Kazakh.
The procedure takes up to 15 business days and does not require any payment.
When this is especially important
Correction is required if you:
- have received a new passport (even if the personal data have not changed);
- have changed your citizenship;
- wish to use a different passport in the case of dual citizenship;
- plan to establish an LLP or submit documents to state authorities.
Check which document your IIN is currently “linked” to. A discrepancy in the data may lead to refusal of a service.
Key point
Correcting IIN data is a simple but necessary procedure. A single visit to a PSC can help you avoid unnecessary delays and confusion with documents.
This is especially important for those who have recently moved, changed their passport or citizenship - update your information so that your digital profile in Kazakhstan remains accurate and up to date.
