IIN Adjustment: Why It’s Necessary and How to Do It
November 27, 2025
While roaming in Russia, Kazakhstani subscribers are not receiving incoming SMS messages
November 27, 2025Recently, more and more taxpayers have been facing unexpected fines and account blocks simply because they did not notice notifications from the tax authorities. The reason is simple: notifications do not arrive in a familiar format, such as bank alerts or advertising messages. They “wait” in the system until you check them yourself.
Where tax notifications appear
The tax authorities send notifications:
- via the Taxpayer’s Cabinet on the eGov portal;
- sometimes in the form of SMS messages or postal letters for companies.
The reason for a notification can be anything - from a missing tax return to an error in the amount of tax.
What happens if you ignore them
If you do not notice a notification and do not pay the tax on time, penalties and fines are charged.
After that, the consequences may escalate:
- bank accounts may be blocked;
- for debts exceeding 40 Monthly Calculation Indices (MCI - a statutory reference value used in Kazakhstan to calculate fines and other mandatory payments), restrictions on leaving Kazakhstan may be imposed;
- the outstanding amount may be recovered compulsorily through the bank.
What needs to be checked
Notifications may contain assessments relating to:
- individual income tax;
- property, vehicle and land taxes;
- social payments — mandatory health insurance contributions and social contributions.
How to avoid problems
Experts recommend checking the Taxpayer’s Cabinet at least once a week, even if you have notifications enabled.
Add a reminder to your calendar and make sure your contact details are up to date.
If you have an accountant, agree that they will also monitor notifications.
It is important to remember: from the moment a notification is opened, the response period starts to run, so delaying is not advisable.
Note
Keep supporting documents in both electronic and paper form. Sometimes the tax authorities request originals, especially in cases of discrepancies or technical failures.
Conclusion
Tax notifications are not a mere formality, but a tool that helps to correct errors in a timely manner and avoid sanctions. Check the system regularly, respond quickly and keep your documents in order. This will save both money and peace of mind.
